| First poker freeroll millionaire | 27th September, 2005 |
There are many ways of becoming a millionaire, but for most people this is only fiction, not reality. Fiction became the real thing for a 28-year-old chef from Blackpool, England, who scored the world's first $1,000,000 prize pot in Paradise Poker's well-known million dollar freeroll tournament.
The chef, Lee Biddulph, battled his way through many boards to secure the first place. A total of 3,900 participants made it to the tournament and many more tested their luck in some of the qualifying rounds.
The final took place at an undisclosed location someplace tropical, we presume. Lee did not come as a favorite to the table, who had a mere $1,58 million in chips versus chip leader Mike Darweesh, who had $2,72 million. A press release describes Lee's final hand:Darweesh rose to his feet as the final hand caused an eruption from the previously silent crowd. Both players were all in before the flop, and as they revealed their hole cards the crowd saw that Darweesh had queen/nine and Biddulph had the dominant ace/ten. The first card from the deck was an ace, which sent the crowd into a further frenzy. The remaining cards on the flop were a 6 and 3. The turn card produced an 8 - sending Biddulph into shock and sending tears streaming down his girlfriend Debbie's face. The river showed another 6, and it was over.
If you feel like testing your luck in the next million dollar freeroll tournament, make sure to look back at PokerYap for more news on this topic. Until then, we recommend that you visit Paradise Poker and play your cards right. | | | - written by Betty Holden |
