| Raymer: Scandinavians pose threat | 3rd October, 2005 |
With the recent development of Scandinavians and Americans battling in every corner of poker championships, Greg "Fossilman" Raymer asked himself how four small nations like Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland could engage a super nation like the United States.
Fossilman writes in his personal blog that recent development within the poker scene has been – in general – dominated by Americans, although a Scandinavian approach has been noted. Greg points out that you don’t see many tournaments without a Scandinavian posing threat in the final tables.
World Cup of Online Poker and European Poker Tour Barcelona was rather "dominated" by Scandinavians, according to Fossilman, who goes on saying that 11 Swedish citizens qualified and played in the money. Two made it to the final table and scored a second and third position. At EPT, a total of five Scandinavians were present at the final table, whereof a Swedish poker player scored the second place.
The Scandinavians will still have to put up a good fight to beat the Americans who hold the world’s biggest poker community. Greg Raymer ends by saying that old IS strong.
