| Shana Hiatt drinks beer at WPT | 9th October, 2005 |
If you've ever watched any of the popular World Poker Tour shows on TV, you may have noticed the champagne toast. The winner of every tournament cheers to the crowd with Shana Hiatt, Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten, while holding a glass of something. Well, things are about to change.
The world's most popular frogs - Bud, Weiz and Err - are up for promotion at the World Poker Tour as Budweiser cashed in with a lot of money to become the official WPT beer. We believe that the champagne toast will be replaced with a few bottles of beer. Besides that, commercial spots and other promotion activities will be put in as well.
Other than that, cash prizes are climbing and the World Poker Tour world stops are likely to get a push from this co-operation as well. Budweiser is well known to push sports and it is interesting to see the beer giant sponsor poker tournaments. It brings poker one step closer to world wide recognition as a real sport and less of the gambling form factor. | | | - written by Betty Holden |
